Best way to get from the UK to rest of Europe?

A buddy and I are going to travel Europe in a few months, and we are getting one of the Europass deals. The Eurorail does not include the UK though, and this is probably where we will be flying in. What would the cheapest way to get to another country be, and what would this country be (Ireland?)Best way to get from the UK to rest of Europe?
If you're traveling around Europe - going first to Ireland will leave you a bit stuck with the only option a long ferry ride to Northern France.

Cheapest ways of getting away from the UK are the budget airlines - notable Easyjet and Ryanair

- some flights are ridiculously cheap

Ireland is not part of the UK.

If you are not going to fly, then you will need to get a ferry from Ireland to either the UK or mainland europe, then start using the train.

fly or ferry between Ireland and the UK - then use the train on continental Europe
The cheapest way of getting around the UK is by coach, but if you want to do a long journey such as Scotland/London, or similar then any of the budget airlines usually offer good value if you're flexible about dates and times (though watch out for all the extra costs for bags, airport check-in etc) Ryanair can be the worst for this, but offer good fares if you can snap up one of their bargains.

Check out National Express Coaches, Megabus, easyJet, FlyBe, BMIBaby, Ryanair
You can catch a Eurostar train from London St Pancras International to Lille or Paris in France or Brussels in Belguim. You can of course connect into the European rail syatem at all of three of these places. Book as far in advance as possible for the lowest fares www.eurostar.com
