How easy is rail travel from South of France to Italy?

The various rail maps I find show lines from Nice/Monte Carlo into Italy. I particularly want to travel from Nice to Milan, using a Eurorail pass. It's a little hard to see exactly which portions are high-speed, and how difficult it may or may not be to make this journey. Experienced travelers, advice welcome! How easy is rail travel from South of France to Italy?
Extremely easy. There are direct trains from Nice to Milan, but none of them are high speed (by high speed, I guess you mean the TGV), so it seems to take 4 hours on average. To take a high speed train, you would have to go back north, I guess up to Chambery *and* pay an extra. A waste of time and money.

Here's the link you need (english version of the french railway company):

Have a nice trip...How easy is rail travel from South of France to Italy?
It is very very easy. Easiest way is to head to the train station in the city you are at and make the arrangements then, particularly with your Eurorail pass.

Also, when I went, I had to pay extra surcharge on top of Euro-rail pass to ride the high speed trains (also the sleeping cars).

But an awesome trip, nonetheless.
