Anyone from Seattle and work at a Hotel there?

I'm planning to visit Seattle Aug. 2009 but don't want to go when the hotels are outrageously expensive or it's hard to find rooms. I'm using skymiles and it looks like Aug. 7-15th is available. Would that be a good time to visit? Also any suggestions on "must see places/attractions" would be much appreciated!! We're planning to go up to Victoria, BC and/or driving down to Mt. Rainier/Mt. St. Helens. Or would Olympic National Park better? We'll be there for a week is all that doable? Thanks!Anyone from Seattle and work at a Hotel there?

My husband works for a hotel and any in the city during this timeof year will be a bit expensive because August has nice weather. A tip about Seattle weather: When it's gloomy it's really gloomy but the few monthsof good weather are amazing and so worth sitting in rain all year for! The week you are going is great because I recall it is during Seafair so there will be lots going on in the city. As for your trip to Victoria and Mt. Rainier - that is far. Are you taking a ferry to Victoria or driving. Ferry is beautiful and driving is going to take you a long time. If you budget out from Seattle going to Victoria for 2 nights that would work but it would be 3 days out of your vacation for the drive and time to sightsee there. From Seattle, you could do a drive to Mt. Ranier do some sightseeing then drive backin the same day but it would be a really long day - Mt. Ranier is about a 5 hour drive from downtown Seattle.

You could spend 2 days in Seattle and I would suggest Pike Place Market and the Pier shops and Olympic Sculpture park which is fun. You could also "Ride the Duck" (google it) and it gives you a city tour plus takes you out on Lake Washington - great for seeing the city neighborhoods.

EMP and seattle Art Museum are great to go to.

Arboretum to rent a canoe and paddle around - great to do in the summer because it is warm and sunny.
