Traveling by eurorail...where do we stay during the night though?

Some friends and I are thinking of traveling around europe with eurorail this summer, the only problem is we don't know where we'd stay and we don't want to spend too much money on that. How are we able to find cheap hotels or satisfactory hostils to stay at? Any suggestions are helpful =)Traveling by eurorail...where do we stay during the night though?
Most young people go to hostels or cheap hotels, although you can spend the occasional night on the train too.

I use the Lonely Planet guidebooks, as they list many places to stay, with prices and quality warnings where needed.

You can get different editions for the different countries you want to go, or one that covers all of Europe.

If you are traveling in July or August, or hit a town when a big festival happens, pre-booked beds are a must, but if you travel in a quiet time you can show up in a town early in the day and get good places for the night, tourist information offices will help you find them too.

If you travel in summer and do not want to book weeks before, still try to phone the evening before arriving, as most hostel and many hotels will take telephone bookings.

If you travel overnight, a couchette will cost about the same as a hostel bed.

But a seat in the coach car will be free (included in your pass) or you just pay a small reservation fee.

Sleeping in a seat is hard, you will find many people trying to lay down between and under the seats.

Sometimes you are lucky and get a car with small 6 seat compartments with just your friends, so you can put your packs between the seats and lay down together.

But believe me, a bed in a hostel is way better.

Also google on hostel and the name of the town you will be next, use the hostel guide of Hosteling International, always pretty good quality, and easy to book the next when you stay at one.

www.hostelworld.com

great site for hostels around europe and across the globe.

I have used this the past three years while traveling around the world. also, if you plan on doing some distance on the train, take the night train and get a sleeping cart. you save yourself time and money by doing this. No need for a hostel and traveling by night, you arrive in the morning at your next location all rested up and ready for your day of exploring.

so again, try
