I plan on goin to either Germany and Croatia or Germany, Romania and Croatia or just Germany and Romania. For some reason I think it might be cheaper to buy my tickets in Europe as I go as opposed to buying some 200 dollar euro pass online...Would it be cheaper to buy a Eurorail pass or to buy my trains tickets while I am already over in Europe?
Checkout the costs on the websites of the different railway companies. If you are willing to book 3 months ahead you can get good deals, but you will not be able to change your times.
It might be worth it to fly between Germany and Croatia or Romania, as it will be a very long train journey that will cost much and is not easy to do as it likele several changes.
A good travel agent can find you cheap deals on trains and flights, otherwise, try the website of the German railways, searching for a train almost 3 months from now, or if traveling before that time, on the date you want to travel, and use the site of the man in seat sixty-one to find you travel planners for other countries.
If you can not find details for 3 months from now, just take a random date. I did not find prices for the Romania one, I did find 23 hour journeys, and that was from the south of Germany.
Seat 61 also has a good page on rail passes and how to compare them to ticket prices.
Just click rail passes in the top of the page.
For flights, try a ticket search site, I will mention two in sources.Would it be cheaper to buy a Eurorail pass or to buy my trains tickets while I am already over in Europe?
No, I think the Eurail pass will work out much better.
The distances between those destinations are considerable and one journey could cost well over 100 dollars, and remember, you will be using Euros, and I think the Euro still costs something like one dollar forty, but I could be wrong there.
