How long would it take from athens to rome through eurorail ?

How many hours would it take from athens to rome and

how much would be the price ..through rail. How long would it take from athens to rome through eurorail ?
This is not a practical trip to make by train. It would take a couple of days on the train with multiple train changes because the trains would need to go around the Adriatic Sea. It should be a clue that none of the trip planners can find a route for this choice. Further, Greece does not have a border with any of the other countries included in the Global Pass. There are a couple of options though.

The easiest way to go from Athens to Rome is to fly. Both EasyJet and Aegean Air operate budget flights between Athens and Rome Fiumicino airport. http://www.whichbudget.com/ , http://www.skyscanner.net/ . There are also flights with the larger carriers.

The other option is to take a train from Athens to a port where you can connect to a ferry to Ancona or Bari and take the train from there to Rome. If you have a pass that is valid in both Italy and Greece, then you can use it for crossings on the Superfast/Blue Star Lines and only pay the taxes and sometimes a supplement. There are discounts on other ferries with your Eurail pass. Details are here: http://www.eurail.com/eurail-pass-benefi鈥?/a> The ferries take around 12 hours for the crossing and the trains depend on the route you take. Count on the overall trip being more than a day - you need to check in for the ferry two hours before departure.
