Eurorail? How Does It Work? Cost? HELP!?

I am college student and a couple friends and I are interested in going to Europe over the Winter Break for school. We want to visit London, Paris, Rome. I have never been to Europe so I don't know what I am doing! If someone has experience and knows how the Eurorail works it will be a big help.Eurorail? How Does It Work? Cost? HELP!?
the first thing is you can't use Eurorail in the UK, so you are then limited to choices in Mainland Europe or Ireland. As I see it you can buy a variety of tickets, from 3-5 countries to 25 countries, if you choice the 3-5 counties option they must be all neighbouring counties, ie 3 countries could be France, Spain %26amp; Italy, but not France, Portugal %26amp; Italy (as Portugal has no border with France or Italy). If you wish to see more of the counties you are visiting, this would be an ideal way to do it, given plenty of time, and money!Eurorail? How Does It Work? Cost? HELP!?
A bit late to organize a trip for Europe. Airfare is quite expensive because of the Holidays and so are the hotels and everything else (Especially in Paris)

Hotel rooms can run you from $100 to $500 a day anywhere in the big cities during this seasons.

London and Paris will be cold (like New York type weather). Rome will be milder.
