Other than a satellite dish and football throw or whatever. I got the st.louis arch for opening down.
I need one opening up? any real life examples?
thanks!!!!What is a real life parabola that is opening up?
An umbrella in torrential rains !
How about a floodlight?
Just so you are aware, the St. Louis Arch is not a parabola. It is called a "catenary" which is the same shape as a rope hanging under its own weight from both ends. The curve is mathematically represented by a hyperbolic cosine function {(e^x + e^-x)/2} rather than the quadratic function that describes a parabola.
If you just need an approximation and a catenary is good enough, then the hanging rope comes close. What is a real life parabola that is opening up?
The cables of a suspension bridge.
