What are some memorable places I should visit in the US before I move?

I plan on moving to the UK in a few months but before I leave, I want to do a cross-country road trip to see some sights. I've already decided to see the Golden Gate Bridge, the Statue of Liberty and the St. Louis Arch but I need help deciding on what else to visit, anything quintessentially American. I'm thinking of places that are photograph-worthy.

I'm not thinking like a sunset on the beach鈥擨'm not dying of cancer, I'm just moving. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What are some memorable places I should visit in the US before I move?

The above person's list is pretty good. All depends on what's most important to you. The West might merit some more time from you since it's so completely different from anything you'll see in the UK. So, ditto on the Grand Canyon, but while you're in that area, I absolutely recommend Zion National Park, and then Bryce National Park. And if you make it to California to see Yosemite if you want majestic scenery.

As for other random ideas, there's always the Seattle Space Needle if you make it up there. And the world-famous San Diego Zoo. New Orleans, of course. The antebellum cities in the South. The Everglades in Florida. The Outer Banks in the Carolinas. The Rocky Mountains. If you like hot springs, you should do a search along your route and visit a couple of those, too. The US West is on the Ring of Fire, so volcanic-fed hot springs are around if you like them.
