Just like they inspect the bridges etc the Arch gets frequent inspections also. It was built to withstand a certain amount of movement. The most damage from an earthquake is done to structures that are built of brick or stone which can crack. The Arch is composed of individual steel frames which is what they recommend if you want your home to withstand a tornado etc. It's a little creepy when you're at the top on a windy day and you feel the swaying but its meant to do that rather than try to resist it. To answer your question, there was no damage to the Arch from yesterday's earthquake. To do major damage, we would have to be closer to the eipcenter and it would have to be at least a 7.0 on the Richter scale.
I just had to respond to your great question just to say that being from California, the only thing I thought of while going inside the beautiful arch several years ago was what would happen to it in a earthquake. I'm really glad it is OK, but being inside the thing gave me the creeps, especially the movement you feel once inside it. You can't help to think about earthquakes. Was there any kind of damage done to the st.Louis Arch in mo?
the arch is built on the bedrock and the workers said they didnt even feel the quake. and no matter what one of the above answers say, St Louis was not leveled by the New Madrid quake, which was Feb. 7, 1812, not 1861 (there were some smaller quakes in 1811). dont give facts that you are not sure of.....
The ARch can stand movement like that , it's been build for earthquakes .........Everything in St.Louis and surrounding area is fine .............nothing wrong ..........

I was just in St.Louis last night ...........everything is wonderful.
none. but in 1861 st. louis was leveled by another earthquake.
