It has been years since I went up in the arch, has anyone been up in the arch recently? want to take my w,chair bound daughter up in it but dont remember what the seating was like(I want to say it was tight). Please help if anyone else knows about accessability. How accessible is the st.louis arch?
I looked up the accessibility on the arch and here is the information they give on the site
http://www.nps.gov/jeff/planyourvisit/ac鈥?/a>
This is the first paragraph:
The National Park Service and its partners make every effort to accommodate visitors to the Old Courthouse and the Gateway Arch complex. Both sites have special exhibits and features for visitors with disabilities; however, historical and architectural features make visiting the top levels of both sites unreachable for visitors in wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers.
If your daughter is very young, maybe you could lift her. You should call the arch before planning your trip and see what they say person to person over the phone
call Laura Tobey- Sales Manager with any questions or concerns at 314-923-3080.
I hope you can get your daughter to the top. She would love it. Have fun on your trip!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you'll have problems getting her up there in a chair. The pods you ride up in are pretty small. Good luck. How accessible is the st.louis arch?
The museum of westward expansion (under the arch) is very accessible and easily maneuvered in a wheel chair. The ride to the top could be tricky though. I've seen them load some wheel-chair-bound people into them, though. You must be able to pick her up and put her into the "pod" elevator. If you want the wheelchair to go to the top with her, it must be able to fold up and fit into the pod. They are very small. I would call ahead to see what arrangements they can make. The top of the arch can be very crowded and you have to stand up to see out the windows. It all depends on how easily she can be lifted and transported. Good luck. I hope she gets to go, its a beautiful view.
connect answered this question right on. call ahead and make sure the chair can collapse to hardly nothing, cuz those pods are literally cubby holes. but do have fun. your wife and daughter(and urself) will enjoy it greatly
I've seen it done it might be a bit of a hassle but nontheless a trip to the top is always worth it.
