Did the St. Louis Arch have to be rebuilt?

I'm doing a science fair project on the St. Louis Arch (because I live in Missouri and just went to the St. Louis Arch yesterday, but it was sold out so I got to at least go to the gift shop and see the inside) and my grandpa just came over to my house. He said that at first when they were building the two legs to meet and connect, they accidentally miscalculated by a few feet and had to tear down one side and rebuild it. He also said that I never see it anywhere in the brochures or whatever because they don't want to let many people know that embarrassing fact. I believe him, because he used to be a history teacher, but I just want to make sure it's true.Did the St. Louis Arch have to be rebuilt?
Sorry Grandpa is teasing you. I lived here when the Arch was being built and this just didnt happen. It was laughed about at the time it was getting ready to be completed that it would sure be embarassing if the last piece didnt fit, however, it went in smoothly and was caught on film.
No it did not. If you had been able to watch the film that they show on the arch grounds about the construction of the arch it would have confirmed this. I would recommend viewing it the next time you visit the arch.Did the St. Louis Arch have to be rebuilt?
Your Grandpa is yanking your leg, pun intended. The arch was constantly measured while they were building it and it lined up correctly the first time.
I have lived in St. Louis all my life and never heard anything about it being torn down and rebuilt. Your grandpa is either joking or was incorrectly informed.
It was never rebuilt, but it is stated that a few of the people working on it died from falls.
No it has never been rebuilt.
